Praise and Thanks

On Monday, January 18, Brian, a nineteen year old orphan, came to my house very ill with temperature 102.6 and too sick to take any meds. I gave him some chicken broth, a coke, lots of water, and two aspirins. Two hours later temperature was 104.4. We sponged him off with cool water from a basin and it came back to 102.4. He had been in the hospital on Sunday receiving a drip and was given some unmarked tablets to take. He never took them; he was so sick and was afraid he would vomit. Realizing the lack of good medical care here, four or five of us prayed for Brian and asked God to heal him. We promised God we would give Him all of the praise and glory when Brian was healed. He had a rough night, but by morning the fever had left him and he was well! So far, no relapse! So we praise and honor God for His care and healing of Brian. "In the day we called, He answered us."

Girl Scouts from Austin Help meet Needs of Ugandan Children

Ruth is sorting and counting the many bath sponges collected by Girl Scouts in Austin. The children do not have adequate bathing cloths, so we will be distributing to them next week. Thanks, for caring, Girl Scouts!

Children at the Orphanage

These children are the reason we plant the gardens and have chicks laying eggs. Sadly, this day, they were without food the entire day. The supply was gone and none was brought in that day. The new school year begins in February, so all of the 80 boarders will be returning this weekend to the orphanage.

These trees produce a root that is prepared in many dishes. These will be ready soon. They were planted last year.

Becky and January at Orphanage

January, who is my guard, but also is in charge of all the plantings and gardens at the orphanage. We went last week for him to show me where he would be planting. Work has begun preparing the ground for planting Irish potatoes, beans, tomatoes, onions, and other local plants. After January stays up all night guarding, he leaves my house around 6am and heads to the orphanage to work for two hours in the morning; he works two hours evening before guarding. He is such a faithful hard-working man and I don't know how it does everything on so little sleep!

Fun Begins--Choosing Curtain Fabric

Our good friend Ruth at the fabric shop with me selecting curtain material---not a luxury, but a necessity for privacy and mosquitoes. We made good choices and all but two rooms are now complete and hanging! What a great difference they have made in the house!
